Cebu now is grabbing the spotlight for many reasons specially at this season when the blazing Sugbo sun is at its peak. Definitely, there are myriads of attractions and activities of beating the heat in this tropical island of Cebu. Yes, the list can go as long as it goes.

Basking in the powdery white sand beaches and island on top of it, indulging into icy and cool refresher and dishes or perhaps go mall hopping  in the cities  colossal and state-of-the-art malls. But here’s one I am offering you, something raw, green and fresh. Let’s go-ecotourism in Alegria-Badian Canyoneering!

There is no better way to cool off than immerse yourself into the wonderful , magical and surreal of Mother Nature. Cebu is now a growing hub for extreme activity such like this and mind you, it’s not just the challenging obstacle they’re keep coming back , breath-taking and Natural charm of the Kanlaob river, that’s drawing them back.

Good Morning from Alegria, Cebu!
Good Morning be like in Alegria, Cebu!

Unique experience downstream stream at Kanlaob canyoneering

“The earth has music for those who listen… open your hearts to hear it well”

At the crack of dawn marks the start of our journey, we rose earlier than the sun, assembled in the rendezvous and hit off the road as soon as the bus was thoroughly filled. Our excitement and thrill sustained us throughout our that 4hrs of unwinding road going to  Alegria, Cebu.

The adventure seekers. Ready for an action pack day!
The adventure seekers. Ready for an action pack day!

The sun is  out warming out a bright day for us. For the first time I am travelling with a blogger friend of mine,   Bonet of my sweet promises   and joined by a good set of adventurous bunch of folks namely Brandy, Kiara,  Hewish, Lot lot, Joshua and Miggy. Together we will challenge our fear and conquer the famed Alegria – Badian Canyoneering with the professional assistance of Yael Canyoneering team. All is set for an adrenaline pumping day ahead.

This exciting cayoneering activity entails a 3 – 4 hrs in average  or it depends of ones pacing traveling down creeks and streams within a mossy canyon. This extreme yet fun activity may require a lot of jumping, a lengthy walk , some swimming, climbing and abseiling. But all the will be replaced, a sweet smile at the end.

The ethereal beauty of Kanlaob, Alegria and Badian

My heart pumping faster , harder and louder more  than  the usual. Perhaps, excitement and thrill caused it.  We first had a short briefing at their tourist center and have our name log in and hand stamped for record purposes. It’s good that such measures is taken seriously by the local government unit. Kudos!

Keep the ball rolling. This is the second stage! Keep the thrill coming.
Keep the ball rolling. This is the second stage! Keep the thrill coming.

Soon after it, we ride into our motorcycles and stormed going to the starting point of canyoneering. Before us is a crowd of excited folks , who came from different corners of the country just to experience this Canyoneering in Cebu. As I look at their facial expression, it varies one from the other. Yet one thing is certain everyone is now in high spirit and giddy to take their first leap so am I. Thanks to the assuring and calm gestures of our professional guide from Yael canyoneering team , Kuya Esoy, Jef and Erik  you are assured.

The fun starts at 15ft  drop, it was a scary sight its like vertigo would pass you out  but our guide Eric jumped first and everything seems so well. I have my hats off to Brandy, to dared to lead the pack. It would really take tons of  courage but once you find it yourself strike while the iron is hot as yell on the top of your lungs.Meanwhile, I was the last to jump since I’m responsible of documenting the adventure.

The elaborate and intricate walls of the canyons are perfected with Mother nature’s personal, unique way of carving it for a one of a kind masterpiece. A beauty beyond the pictures on the internet we often envy of. An ethereal and surreal beauty , a scenery only in our dreams and wild imagination and the closes we could have in cinemas we can see.

Of canyons, waterfalls, lagoons, river and a lot of fun

Fun never ends of that 3- 4 hrs of canyoneering downstream the Kanlaob river, feast with your eyes with Nature got in-store for you down the Southern side of Cebu. Brace yourself to the adrenaline rush fun and the wonders it has!

The Kanlaob – Matutinao- Kawasan canyoneering will features waterfalls of various heights ranging from 15 feet up as high as 50 feet with deepness  I barely care not to ask or seek to know, I’m contented and confident to say that it is deep enough for one to have a safe landing and one can enjoy swimming .

Frolicking into the wilderness in the realms of Mother nature
Frolicking into the wilderness in the realms of Mother nature

Expect to see waterfalls  up close and personal , see colossal canyons bedecked with stalactites accentuated with moss, immerse and distress yourself in its tempestuous clear lagoons or simple spend idyllic time  in its pristine rivers . To me? I did all those aforementioned activities, live life to the fullest!

Frolicking into the wilderness in the realms of Mother nature is never been this fun as I expected it to be, the long stretch of walking in the river banks is filled with stories , tales , anecdotes and some hugots.haha making every walk worth the sweat.  Making the bonds among our friendship tighter.

Filipino as we are by nature haggling to almost everything is part of our being. So, help me cut the process a little, just tell them , you heard about Yael cayoneering from me,  “Master Ryo”  or “Ram Kuizon.” It would make the process faster. Take a screen shoot of this and send it to them if needed but I doubt. 🙂

Try it to find out!

The difference between you and me is that I dont wait for the adventure to happen. I seek for adventure and make it happen.

It’s now time to put the trust back in yourself and gain confidence, it’s hard at first but once you’ve done it. The happiness and satisfaction are priceless . Dare to think about it and believe in it as Peter pan once said, right?

I will never trade my experience and never regretted one moment I have in this trip, this the most closest experience to nature I could have so far, the only words I could conjure up to describe this is ” Enchanting and endearing.”

Before this end,  may I express my shout goes to  Bonet of my sweet promises  ,  Brandy, Kiara,  Hewish, Lot lot, Joshua and Miggy for sharing your precious time and allowing me to be part of your summer story.
